CASE STUDY

An accessible, mobile-first virtual gallery experience.

Helping users discover, explore, and enjoy virtual Tour Gallery spaces through intuitive and inclusive design.

Overview

Background

The Virtual Art Gallery App offers an immersive and accessible way for users to explore and experience art exhibitions remotely. Designed with simplicity and inclusivity in mind, it allows visitors to navigate virtual rooms, view artworks, and connect with the stories behind them through intuitive interactions.

Goals

Design an intuitive tablet and mobile interface for seniors aged 70–80+.
Enable caregivers and healthcare facilities to monitor seniors’ health and location in real time.
Integrate key features, fall detection, heart rate and blood pressure tracking, geo-fencing alerts—within a highly accessible UI using large icons, high contrast, and simple navigation to support users with visual, hearing, or mobility limitations.

Role & Responsibilitie

Lead UI/UX Designer — responsible for end-to-end design, from research to prototype, completed under the Google UX Design Certificate program (Coursera).

Duration

Personas

Problem Statement

Reena is a paramedic who lives in Lakewood, Colorado. She lives alone but shares custody of her daughter with her ex-partner. Reena works both day and night shifts, and her schedule changes week to week. She is a rock climber who goes to the climbing gym a few mornings a week and drives her daughter to soccer practice on any nights she’s not working. Reena has dyslexia, which makes it difficult to read text quickly and process information in fast-paced settings. She is both health-conscious and budget-conscious.

User Journey Map

Design Process

To begin the design process, I sketched multiple paper wireframes to quickly explore layout ideas and highlight key features. I used stars to mark elements that aligned with user needs and app goals, which were later used in the digital wireframes.

At this stage, we identified key interactions and accessibility features to be tested in the wireframes , such as navigation clarity, readability of labels, and icon recognition for seniors.

We also considered font size, contrast ratio, and touch area spacing to ensure easy usability for users aged 70+. Testing the gallery navigation flow helped us refine how visitors explore, favorite, and access artworks within the virtual space.

Our goal was to create a clear and friendly layout that supports intuitive interaction while maintaining an artistic look and feel. These insights later guided improvements in the high-fidelity prototype.

Point of View (POV)

Point of View We would like to help seniors get the best use out of our app despite the fact that many find it difficult to use and not too beneficial We would like to help Markitech grow the Sensights app and increase its usage despite the fact that the adoption rate is low currently.
